LESSON SERIES: Introduction to Food and Restaurants
These two lessons were created to introduce fifth grade students to the vocabulary used in their next unit, which was on food and restaurants. Lesson one is a simple review of different types of food. I used it to gauge their initial understanding and knowledge of target structures and vocabulary.
The second lesson provided repetition of the words learned in the last class through a matching game and bingo, and introduced four new words — "beverage", "appetizer", "main course" and "desert". Students then created links between the previously-learned vocabulary and the new concepts using a graphic organizer.
