LEVEL OF MASTERY
By the end of his or her initial training, the student teacher should be able to:
-
Introduce and maintain routines that ensure the smooth running of regular classroom activities;
-
Identify and correct organizational problems that hinder the smooth running of the class;
-
Anticipate some of the organizational problems that hinder the smooth running of the class and plan measures to prevent them;
-
Establish and apply methods that can be used to solve problems with students who exhibit inappropriate behaviours.
I had a few regular routines I would use suited to Secondary 1 and 2 classes, including: counting down from 5 (in order to avoid cutting students off while still demonstrating that a conversation or activity needed to come to an end), by scheduling silent reading/work periods at the beginning of class, and occasionally using the lights, and simply waiting quietly for the attention of all students.
I also developed a system of classroom management practices in response to continued misbehavior.
I believe I have achieved thorough mastery of this competency.
