Competency 12: To demonstrate ethical and responsible professional behaviour in the performance of his or her duties.

Justifies his or her decisions concerning the learning and education of students to the parties concerned.
Respects the confidential nature of certain aspects of his or her work.
Avoids any form of discrimination toward students, parents or colleagues.
Situates the moral conflicts arising in class with reference to the major schools of thought.
Demonstrates sound judgment in using the legal and regulatory framework governing the teaching profession.

LEVEL OF MASTERY

By the end of his or her initial training, the student teacher should be able to:

Demonstrate sufficient responsibility in dealings with students that one can recommend with no reservations that a class be entrusted to his or her care;
Answer to others for his or her actions by providing well‐founded reasons.

I was understanding and fair with all students to the best of my abilities, and the majority of students found me fair as well (see the Responsiveness and Skill portion of my teacher evaluation).

I dressed appropriately and maintained appropriate decorum for a classroom teacher. I ensured I was always prepared for each class and ready to address the concerns of students.

If a student mentioned a personal problem that seemed troubling, I would follow-up with the student as well as my CT.

In using the model of consequences I've outlined in my classroom practices, students are fully aware of what they should and should not be doing, and are not punished arbitrarily— rather, the classroom serves to protect the right of students to learn safely and effectively, and any consequence will be in place to reinforce and return that order.
