PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCY 9
Field Experience 1
During my first field experience, it was difficult to fulfill competency 9 due to the fact that there was a work-to-rule strike, and extra-curricular activities were indefinitely suspended. However, I was able to attend a meeting regarding expense proposals, and saw the students' Winter Concert— which was quite big, since my host school is known for its art program.
Since my field experience, I have been able to write a mock letter to a parent in my Communication in Education class. This has given me the opportunity to consider my approach in communicating with parents and administration, and I feel more prepared to do so in my second field experience.
Field Experience 2
In my second field experience, I found it somewhat difficult to integrate into the wider school atmosphere due to my difficulties in speaking French. However, I was able to participate in and take notes on my cooperating teacher's yoga classes, attended staff meetings at the school, and took notes throughout.
Overall, I maintained a friendly and receptive demeanour to work with others despite my language barrier. Since this field experience, I have also done French courses and worked to improve my communication.
I hope to continue improving my French in order to better integrate myself within French schools.
